Juvenile Defense

Brockton Juvenile Defense Lawyer
Criminal Charges - School Hearings

A criminal conviction can follow a young adult for the rest of his or her life. The Brockton, Massachusetts criminal defense law firm of Andrew H.P. Norton has defended hundreds of juveniles in all types of criminal proceedings, as well as related school suspension and drivers license hearings.

Good kid in trouble?
If your child has never been in trouble with the law before or has only minor offenses, we work hard to ensure that they do not get a criminal record. First time offenders may be eligible for a diversion program in which the case is dismissed before arraignment in exchange for community service. In any juvenile charges, we strive for the best possible outcome with the least impact on the youth's future.

We vigorously defend against any juvenile criminal charges, including:

  • Possession of marijuana or other drugs
  • OUI / DWI and alcohol offenses
  • Date rape or sexual assault
  • Assault and battery
  • Shoplifting and larceny
  • Traffic violations
  • Destruction of property
  • Criminal mischief

Andrew H.P. Norton is based in Brockton and serves all of Southeast Massachusetts. Attorney Norton regularly represent young adults and teenagers from the towns of Bridgewater, Easton, Stoughton, Hanover, Rockland, and Quincy, as well as the Plymouth County juvenile courts at Hingham, Wareham, Brockton and Plymouth.

Youthful Offender

While most of our clients are kids who do not have a criminal history, we also represent kids charged as youthful offenders. If convicted of a serious crime (assault with a weapon, sexual assault, many drug charges and other felony crimes) the juvenile can be committed to custody of the Department of Youth up to age 18. Mr. Norton understands the importance of fighting these charges vigorously to prevent such punishments.

School Suspension / Drivers License Suspension
Fights, assaults, vandalism, drugs, arson and other school-related charges can result in consequences for the child's education. We represent students in expulsions and suspension hearings, or other sanctions.

Adults can be charged with operating under the influence if their blood alcohol content is .08 percent. A juvenile can be charged with OUI if they have a BAC of just .02 percent. In addition to criminal drunk driving charges, youths up to age 18 can lose their Junior Operator's License for one year for OUI, open container, and refusal of a breath test. Speeding tickets and other moving violations may result in suspension for 6 months to 1 year.

We represent juveniles in both the criminal and administrative proceedings to fight the charges or get the most beneficial plea agreement. Contact a Brockton juvenile defense lawyer with experience and results for a free consultation.
